Escape 9to5 exists to surface opportunities like this one before they fill up.

Role: Video Post-Production Workflow Expert
Job Type: Part-Time Contract
Pay Rate: $15 – $65/hr (depending on experience and project scope)
Location: 100% Remote — Work from anywhere
Number of Openings: 50
Core Skills: OpenShot, Shotcut, Narrative Timing, Asset Management, Workflow Documentation

What This Role Is About

This is not a standard video editing gig. A research-forward company is building AI tools that understand how professional editors actually think — and they need real editors to show them. Your job is to work through your natural post-production process using OpenShot or Shotcut, from raw footage all the way to final export, while documenting the decisions you make along the way.

If you have spent years developing a sharp instinct for pacing, sequencing, and visual storytelling, that expertise is exactly what this team is looking for. Remote video editing jobs like this rarely exist — most freelance work pays you for the output. This role pays you for the process.

The work is flexible by design. You are contributing to an AI learning initiative, which means your workflow, your problem-solving style, and your narrative sensibility are the deliverables — not just the finished video. Editors who thrive here will be comfortable articulating their choices and working independently without hand-holding.

With 50 open slots, this is a genuinely scalable opportunity for qualified editors to pick up consistent contract work from home while doing something that matters beyond the timeline.

What You Will Work On

→ You will demonstrate your complete end-to-end post-production workflow using OpenShot and/or Shotcut, from raw asset import to final export.

→ You will organize, label, and manage video assets in a structured, reproducible way that reflects real professional standards.

→ You will apply your narrative timing instincts to structure edit sequences with intentional pacing and visual flow.

→ You will refine rough cuts, evaluate transition choices, and work through visual challenges as they emerge naturally during editing.

→ You will document your creative and technical decisions clearly — both in writing and verbally — so the research team can extract meaningful workflow data.

→ You will collaborate directly with an AI research team, providing feedback on how your workflow is being captured and flagging anything that needs adjustment.

→ You will showcase how you handle common post-production obstacles, bringing your own creative approach to each challenge rather than following a rigid script.

→ You will work on your own schedule in a fully remote environment, adapting to evolving project goals as the research initiative develops.

Skills Required

This role is open to editors with a demonstrated professional track record — no minimum years are specified, but your portfolio needs to show completed projects for commercial, educational, or monetized content.

OpenShot (Required) · Shotcut · Narrative Timing · Sequence Editing · Asset Organization & Archiving · Written Workflow Documentation · Verbal Communication · Visual Problem-Solving · Independent Remote Work

Preferred candidates have a background as a freelance video editor, multimedia designer, or content producer — particularly those with experience in e-learning, marketing, or social media video. Prior experience creating workflow documentation or training materials is a strong plus.

Why This Role Stands Out

💰 Competitive Hourly Pay Up to $65/hr — The rate range reflects real expertise, and experienced editors with strong portfolios are positioned to earn at the top end of that bracket.

🌍 Fully Remote and Flexible — There is no fixed office, no commute, and no rigid 9-to-5 schedule. You work from wherever you are, on a contract basis that fits around your existing projects and life.

🎬 Your Workflow Is the Product — Unlike typical editing contracts where your name ends up in the credits but your process goes unrecognized, this role specifically values how you think, sequence, and solve — making your expertise the entire point.

With 50 openings available and a rolling review process, the competition window is real but not overwhelming — especially if you move now. Applications are being reviewed as they come in, which means waiting works against you. If building a remote career around skills you already have is the goal, this is a clean, direct path forward. Opportunities that value your process, pay well, and ask nothing of your location are rare — this one checks all three.
